Squash Blossom
Slow Food Sydney
is a convivum of Slow Food, an international non-profit organization which counteracts fast food and the disappearance of local food traditions. Founded in Italy in 1986 by Carlo Petrini, our movement affirms the principle of an eco-gastronomy, which is about respecting natural rhythms of seasons and sharing food at a convivial table, with awareness and responsibility.

Slow Food Sydney comprises today members from all walks of life, including home cooks, families, chefs, caterers, students, wine makers, farmers and scientists: anyone who is interested in supporting food traditions and local growers. We consider ourselves co-producers, not consumers, because - by being informed about the food we eat, where it comes from and how our choices affect the rest of the world - we become a part of the production process.

Seasonal Guide

We are very excited to announce the launch of the first seasonal guide to
Sydney's food: fruit, vegetables, seafood, meat and poultry.  That means nothing grown more than 160 kilometres away.

This Slow Food guide will help you buy when everything local is at its peak, so it tastes better and is a lot cheaper.

You will be able to plan your eating around the seasons, and that means diversity of diet, which is better for your health as well as your budget.

This little book is an indispensable guide for those wanting to eat seasonally and a revelation for others who may have lost touch with the seasons.

These guides are now available for purchase from our volunteers, who can be found at selected farmers markets or via email, when you contact us at info@slowfoodsydney.com.au

The booklet is also available at the information stand at Eveleigh Street Markets held each Saturday morning at Eveleigh and at The Cookery Book Northbridge and Glebe Books. RRP is about $10.00.
